A philosophical Erasmus

The philosophical erasmus would consist on a course of study, organised by the philosophy faculties of European universities, accessible to the winners of a competition. The course will start from Athens (where the major Greek philosophers will be studied) and then in Rome. This would enhance and further develop the training of young people with a particular interest in the field.

This is crucial on so many levels. Philosophy provides the foundations for the so much valued “critical thinking” and it is the best way to teach logic and how logic can also be deceitful when a succession of premises are used to point towards an unrelated conclusion. To teach things such as “correlation is not causation” can have a much wider impact when that is present while teaching any other areas of the curricula. It can bring enlightenment to ethics and foment interest in morals if taught from an early phase with an adequate complexity level.
